RavenariThe March and June 2007 editions of The Magickal Light featured cover artwork by Australian artist Ravenari. In the same issues she also wrote a series of articles on totem animals.
Ravenari is a totemist and animist who practiced covenbound Alexandrian Wicca for 2 years. She has over 10 years of devout experience in spiritual animist practices ('shamanism'). Her shamanism of choice is called Vilturj, which was Russian in origin but has changed over time due to her connection to local spirits. She lives in Western Australia, and has needed to adapt to Australian spirits, animal energies and the land. Ravenari’s path is eclectic because of where she lives, and is now very much hybridised, so that she may continue to seek, love and learn about the land here.
Ravenari enjoys working with the runes. She is also fascinated working with areas and gods who are often vilified for being 'ugly' (such as Baba Yaga, or desert landscapes and swamps). Her shamanic adventures, information, learnings and teachings are freely available on her website, as is much of her animal totem information. See http://www.wildspeak.com. Ravenari is slowly building up an animal totem dictionary which focuses specifically on the less well-known creatures. Currently Ravenari is working on the Australian Animal Oracle Deck (working title). This is a deck of 75 cards representing Australian animals, including feral animals like the camel, goat and horse (brumby). There will also be an accompanying book. This divination system focuses on bringing people into awareness of the energies of the animals around them, instead of just the more commercially well-known totems. So in it there are cards like marsupial mole, delicate mouse, antechinus, earthworm, wallaby etc. and other lesser known Australian animals.
