Hello. I just registered here at the Magicka School, and have begun studying my first course "Wicca Revealed," with great interest. I am very encouraged to see the great depth of information contained here at this website. I believe I have already been able to clear up certain misconceptions I had about the Craft by reading about its history and its foundations.
My name is Scott, and I live in central Massachusetts (US). I was adopted at age 2 in 1970, but I reunited with my birth family 3 years ago in 2008. My birth mother says that my grandmother, her mother, had "the Gift." I believe I have it also, and that I am actually a gifted psychic. I am not entirely certain how this dove-tails with Magicka and The Craft. If any of you who are more experienced with this could enlighten me as to this topic, that would be most appreciated.
The primary reason why I claim I am "psychic," is because I have had several very supernatural experiences that seemed to happen quite by accident to me over the years (I will be 44 on January 28, 2012). I think the most profound experience I had concerned a young man named Thomas who died of a tragic moped accident when I was in high school in 1986. I didn't know him very well at all. The day of his wake, I kept hearing an inner Voice urging me to "go to his wake."
I finally relented and did attend his wake. After praying over his body (I am currently a practicing Christian), I went to express condolences to his parents. When I made contact with his father by shaking his hand, what basically happened is that I saw the soul of the deceased in front of his body, calling out to his parents. His parents, in turn, seemed, in my point of view, to be a mile away from me, in an insurmountable, inky blackness or void, crying out, "Son, we love you, come back to us." The deceased (their son), said to them "Mom, Dad, I love you, and I need to go now, but I will always love you."
I will forever be struck and dumbfounded by the fact that I was allowed (predestined?) to be such an integral part of so intimate a moment, and the fact that Thomas, who was crossing over, was more concerned with his parents' well-being than his own. I believe I basically "channelled" the boy's spirit, and he used me as a medium to get his final message on Earth across to his parents that he would be leaving behind.
Also, once when I was in college, through meditation, I experienced a profound Source of Love and Light that embraced me for a good 15 minutes. It was the most joyous, wonderful, happiest moment of my life.
I have encountered people who have claimed to be "witches" or "warlocks," but now I know that they are not legitimate. One person, who claimed to be a "warlock," claimed to have advanced knowledge of the Craft. However, his behavior, particularly his drinking and drug abuse, revealed to me that he actually was very death-obsessed and suicidal (he even had a very creepy altar in his living room replete with skulls !!!)
Another "witch" I had the displeasure of encountering in 1993, who I am certain goes under several aliases (if he is still alive), physically abused me, and used mind control against me (love / sex spells ???) He claimed to be part of a coven. One very strange thing that happened to me is that he had me perform a bizarre ritual involving placing my hands in certain positions, and performing certain hand gestures, to determine "if I could be a witch." After doing this ritual with me, he claimed that I would be nothing but a "minor warlcock." However, I suspect that he innately sensed a source of great potential or power within me, and he felt threatened, so he lied about what my true potential truly was. Do any of you know about these type of rituals, and are they related to Magicka or the Craft in any way?
One concern I have is that if I do have potential in Wicca, that I might not be able to control the powers / my powers effectively. I am very much committed to Light, Love, and Joy in my religious practices. Primarily, I see myself as an "empath," like Counselor Deana Troi from Star Trek: Next Generation. I can "channel" other people's emotions. I find that grief and pain are emotions that are particularly palpable, and that I can sense much more easily than others. If "evil" does exist, it exists with people who feed off grief and pain for their own enjoyment. That, unfortunately, I have seen in the world all to often.
Once when my adopted mother was alive (pre - 2002; she died from cancer in 2002), she found several papers I had printed from my computer that I had torn up and tried to get rid of. I had been making an inventory of the abuse I had suffered at hands during my childhood with her. During the ensuing argument that happened about this, I very deliberately said, "NO!" in a commanding voice. It became a very surreal, "Harry Potter-esque" experience, because suddenly, she was rendered unable to speak for several seconds. It seemed as if I had exerted my will (perhaps magically?) upon her, to be silenced. Again, is this an indicator of some Magicka potential that is as yet not fully realized within me?
I apologize for the length of this post, but I wanted to ask several questions in a forum that I knew would be accepting, informative, and welcoming. I will continue to study and to research the Craft, and make my own decisions as to how it can enhance and develop my own latent potential. Thank you everyone for your advice and input; it is most welcome and appreciated. Take care, have a happy New Year, and Blessed Be.

WELCOME
Ive never herd of such a Ritual as you mentioned above, and it does seem you may in fact have some gifts that you most certainly can develop and learn to control, it takes time and patients, and quite a bit of reading. Just take time to learn, dont rush into anything until you understand it.
I be looking forward to your input, have fun on the forum.
Blessings Elia V

By your birth date you're an Aquarian ~ they tend to just know things,,,,why that is I'm not entirely sure, only that most possess some type of physic abilities and it comes easier to them than to others,,,,on that note,,,,
WELCOME TO MAGICKA Hope you learn lots & I see ya around the boards. Most of all, do enjoy! Blessings, Silver Firelite

Hello Scott,
Welcome to Magicka. Seems like you have had some interesting experiences though the years.
The experience with Thomas shows that you have mediumship tendencies that, if you wished, could be further developed. There are many people out there who find great solace in having a medium communicate with their family members who have passed.
In the Craft male Witches are usually referred to as Witches, too, not warlocks - that's a term that is seldom used. Unfortunately, the Craft can attract people who are, or claim to be, practitioners for all the wrong reasons and you have to be very discerning. However, having a skull on your altar does not necessarily indicate that a person is death-obsessed or suicidal. A skull can help a practitioner to access the chthonic forces and the spirit world, which is an important part of Witchcraft.
I've not heard of or come across a ritual like you described with the hand gestures.........don't know what that was all about, but I have a sneaky feeling he was trying to make himself look good, lol. Again, there are people that try to use the Craft for self-aggrandizement and ego building, etc.
You mentioned about being worried that you won't be able to control the powers and your power effectively. If you could find a teacher who's experienced and knowledgeable it would be very helpful as they would teach you how - there are many Witches in Mass - don't know if you're anywhere near Salem. If not there are many good books that can guide you and the courses here at Magicka are full of information and guidance.
If you can feel other people's emotions and their physical pain or well-being then, as you said, you have empathic tendencies. Learning how to shield is very important as you'll need to protect yourself. As for exerting your will over your birth mother during the argument you had I would imagine the way in which you said 'NO' probably surprised her into silence, I really don't think it's indicative of any magic (but that's just my opinion, lol).
You said you're very much committed to Light, Love and Joy, which is wonderful, but without Darkness there can be no Light, everything has a shadow side and we must be able to recognize and accept that, otherwise we won't be whole.
I sense some uncertainty on your part about learning the Craft, if you have doubts then take your time and research and enjoy the course here at Magicka.there's a lot to learn and absorb and it can, at times, seem overwhelming. There's much information out there, some good and some quite worthless so ask a lot of questions as we like questions here and there are many people willing to help. You may discover that it's not what you want and that's fine too, it's all part of life's journey. Briganta

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. A slight note of correction: it was my adopted mother with whom I had the argument that I mentioned in my first post. I re-united with my birth mother 3 years ago, and we have a wonderful relationship. Sadly, without darkness, light cannot exist. I know this too well with my life experiences.
I want also to thank my mentor for agreeing to take me on as her student. I promise that I wlll try to learn the Craft well, and use it only for the betterment of my fellows, friends, and kin.
Please, if possible, during your rituals and meditations, ask the Goddess for a special blessing for me, as I have no money, no employment, a great deal of debt, and a very dwindling sense of hope that it will all work out at the moment. I am getting rather desperate and depressed. Thank you once again, and Blessed Be.

Try not to let that nasty old depression creep in - it's insidious and difficult to get rid of if it gets hold of you.
Try some meditation and picture yourself as you wish to be - employed and feeling good.
All the best to you, Briganta

All the best to you, Briganta Definitely try not to let depression get a hold of you as you can situationally turn your depression into clinical depression,,,,Meditation is good for the mind and body and I do believe that positive does attract positive.
Many Blessings, Silver Firelite

What a wonderful introduction! Thank you for sharing a part of yourself with us. You are a wonderful person and I know the Light and Love with follow you wherever you go. Even during the trying times when we think Love isn't all around us, it is and I know you are being cared for. I hope things become easier for you.
Good luck and Congratulations on finding your birth mom. I found mine too and she and I are close. Lucky for us we both had good reunions.
Blessings.......

Hi, just thought I would share with you my latest YouTube video, "Prayer To The Goddess." It's an original piano work I just composed and recorded. Mods, please feel free to move this to the appropriate forum if I am in error posting it here. Thanks, and enjoy...
PS: Would have loved to embed the video in the post, but this site doesn't yet have that ability coded yet. I'm willing to work with the site admins (I know HTML / CSS and some BBCODE) to get that working if that is desired...
Here's the YouTube Link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adeNX5vRqs8&hd=1
