I have been told that you should only use a deck that has been given to you as a gift. Is this true or can I buy my own? Many thanks for your help

The tarot cards don't have to be given to you as a gift (although that is nice) or you could be waiting a long time for a deck. Go ahead and buy your own. It will not make a difference in your readings.

Actually, the one Tarot deck that was given to me as a gift never did work for me, lol. It's just fine to buy your own.

I've been reading for a couple of years now and never had a set given to me. Go ahead and buy one. Go into a bookshop and get your hands around a few sets, go with the one that jumps off the shelf at you.

There is only one person in the world who could pick out a deck for me that I would relate well to...My husband...
With that being said, my first deck (Tarot of a Moon Garden) was a gift to myself. I loved that deck, but it wasn't the one that brought tarot home for me. I do still use it now and then...

I went to the Aeclectic tarot site and looked at every single deck they had and made a list -Ciro's Gilded deck is what jumped out at me (if that one talks to you you're gonna love his Gilded Royale!) and its one of my favorites although I'm working with his Oracle of Visions for daily draws.
