Has anyone heard of or used Rune Charms? My teacher has created several, thought I'd share one here.
#11 for Protection Havamal 156:1-5 That eleventh Iknow, if I am to lead Old friends into the fray: Under shield-rim I sing so that swiftly they fare Hale and whole to and from battle: Hale where'er they may be.
Cast a circle using Norse deities, it shows respect if you're going to use runes, to use Norse deities. Using a votive candle, carve Uruz in the North, Ansuz in the East, Sowilo the South, and Algiz the West. Charge the candle with your intent. Light your candle and focus your intent. Leave candle burning til it goes out.
How it works: Sowilo is the run "sung under the shield-rim" to provide protection & bring the power of Lightalfheim. Algiz brings the protection of the Valkyries. Uruz embodies primal strength, and Ansuz represents the "singing of the runes" to invoke their power.

is there an official translation of the Havamal? I have read a few versions and yours is yet another one. I am getting quite confused which one I should use?

The only info i have is from my teacher, he says Carolyne Larrington or Lee M Hollander's translation. I have a couple others, I'll be getting one of the one's he recommends. Good luck.

It may be free online from being such an old text, just google it. I've used rune charms once in a while, but I tend to just come up with my own bind runes. I'm not involved with Nordic things, so I don't feel I could guess accurately at what the Havamal may be saying. It's a clever idea though, and may be how it actually was. Quote: Cast a circle using Norse deities, it shows respect if you're going to use runes, to use Norse deities. Can I ask for the reasoning on both counts?

Don't know about this being the way it was. It does seem clear that the Norse were very practical people, and looked on the runes not only as a practical way of writing mundane things, but as a magickal tool. The process of giving them life and spirit by blooding and singing them is a strong indication of this
All the rune charms I have were developed by my teacher, who identifies himself as Odin's Man. The way he taught me, was that it's always a good idea to have a sacred circle when doing magick. And since you are using Norse runes, it is respectful to call the Norse deities, as these runes are a specifically Norse tool. It could be argued that the Norse went pretty much everywhere, and became part of that culture, so the deities of any culture would do, but the Norse were pretty much true to their Gods, unlike other expansionist cultures like the Romans. Personally, I wouldn't consider using Norse runes without invoking the Norse deities.
