I would love to grow some herbs but I don't have a garden as such as I live in a tenement block (apartments) and only communal ground at the back of the houses , I was wondering if you can get your thinking caps on and give me a few ideas of what I can do in the limited space
I thought of getting a couple of planters but all the neighbors use the back for hanging washing up etc and where the bins are so any ideas regarding small planters
I do not have green fingers and something easy and simple would be good
looking forward to hearing your suggestions
many blessings

Do you have window space? Maybe try small containers in a sunny window. I usually have some basil and rosemary hanging in the kitchen window. They are pretty easy to take care of ., Also they have the little kits that have like 4 of the more basic herbs at the Home supply stores or garden center,
Hope this helps a wee bit at least.

In my house I had to take over a neighbors plants so what I did was take all of them and of couse they were in plantern and got them all as close to the window as possible. It is south west. anyhow they are doing good. So Find a windows and put them there. Even on the floor. Get some bowls if you have to to put them in. You can have a garden at a window. Some require less sun. Just research what you wanna do,

Planters on windowsills work great for growing herbs. You can buy a windowsill planter that holds 4-5 different kinds of herbs in them that way you can save space but still have a variety of herbs to grow.

Can also try using a fruit basket or one of those mossy baskets to hang in front of a window with the little pots in it if you are limited on window sill space.

We are on the second floor and have french doors that open up and there is a railing, no balcony.
We put in two windowsill boxes of flowers and then added a couple of pots of herbs on the bottom. You could do something similar in a windowsill.
We got the pre set of herbs mentioned above. 4 with pots, a holder for the pots, the dirt, seeds etc for less than $10 USD.

You may use a hydroponic set up with lamps like they use to grow that funny weed. LOL

Hanging baskets may be a good idea i think as 'fire dragon' suggests. These can be hung from the ceiling inside or wherever. Various plants need different amounts of light, so keep that in mind. Nasturtiums look attractive and can be eaten also for boosting the immune system. Find a sunny window and hang your basket near there and have a herb basket or two or three etc. Have a container on the window sill to.

Do you have an outside space as you enter the flat? We have the 'landing' which is open - I'm planning on getting a few large troughs to put there...other than that, window boxes are prob the best way to go. However, I'd avoid putting them in the kitchen unless its somewhere that stays quite cool - all of my kitchen herbs have perished because my kitchen gets very stuffy!!!
Also, have you maybe talked to your neighbours?? You may find that they dont mind you taking some of the outside space - especially if you offer them fresh herbs for their meals

I use an aero garden. it is fully comtained unit which holds 5 or 7 pods of herbs. The unit has built in grow lights and the herbs will grow as long as you want providing you trim them often. you can evan put it in a darker room if you have to. I have a 7 pod unit. when the time comes to start new pods you can order from their list of herbs and create your own personal mix. this unit is completely hydroponic. they have a web site and will send you a catologe. since i am really bad at adding links to documents i will say if you go to google and type in Aero Garden it should come up. if you can wait a while i will get my daughter to help me later and put in a clickable link.
