As I have looked around I have noticed that the dates for the eight sabbats fall within a date range. How do I know when the sabbat is.
Is the date dependant on which path you follow, or if you are not following a set path can you choose a suitable date?

I believe it's mainly because the exact day varies slightly depending on how far North or South you are, if you're talking about holidays influenced by the Sun. So just pick a suitable date for now, and perhaps watch the pattern of seasons where you live to determine the exact date.

I think I probably got this link from someone else on this forum, but here it is for you: http://websurf.hmnao.com/surfbin/first.cgiIt will give you the dates of the astronomical events such as solstices and equinoxes. Whitefox is right though, watching the signs of nature for change will give you a good idea of when seasonal related sabbats fall. In the meanwhile, you have to do what suits you. The God and Goddess won't be bothered by putting a sabbat on a convenient day. Covens seem to put theirs on the weekend near the recognised date to make it more convenient for people to gather.

I personally go by the dates on the calander....that's just me though, I've heard you have 72 hours to celebrate a holiday, the day before or the day of or the day after

Just to confuse the issue - some Celtic traditions celebrate a festival when the Green world or Mother Nature declares it to be. For instance, not much sense celebrating Spring if there's five feet of snow outside or a blizzard is in progress - so celebrate the festival when the Earth is showing you it's time.

That's a part of recon Germanic traditions as well. It makes sense in a way, because the weather and climate is not solely affected by astrological positions, and the range once covered by Celts included a variety of climates and landscapes.

Thank you for all your ideas.
I think I will look at which one is closest to the day I can work with, I have to fit everything around work university and my family life.
I am planning to start in feb as this gives me time to plan what I am going to do and how.
