I recently went to our local mystic shop for alter supplies. The owner gave me a few herb samples to research and try out. One of the samples was Star Anise (Illicium verum). In my research I found that Chinese Star Anise is used for cooking and teas however Japanese Star Anise can be toxic and can cause seizures. The FDA is advising people to avoid tea containing Star Anise unless you are sure of it's origin.
