The title is my question. I know what essential oils are and what perfume oils are. Also, I have heard and read that those vendors naming their product as aromatherapy oils are less likely to be selling 'pure' (for lack of a better word) product. Meaning they have mixed the essential oils (if any are in it at all) with chemicals to make the scent 'stronger' or 'better.' Is this true?

Aromatherapy oils are generally essential oils that have been blended with a carrier oil like grapeseed or almond oil. They should absolutely not have been blended with other 'chemicals' to exacerbate the scent, the chemicals themselves will probably do more harm than good. A fairly odourless carrier oil is best.
This doesn't make the scent stronger OR better; in fact, it is designed to dilute the strength of the essential oil - as most essential oils when placed straight on the skin cause contact dermatitis, and straight essential oils placed into oil-burners etc. can cause headaches and other side effects.
Many aromatherapists buy pure oils and then dilute them themselves, as needed. But for people who just want to experiment with different scents at home, it is possible to buy pre-diluted oils for a cheaper price.

Hi Red Lady Jewel
Usually the words "Aromatherapy" and "essential" oils are used interchangeably.
I see you live in New York City so you can go to Whole Foods and get Aromatherapy oils. They are usually sold in small "dram" bottles. These are pure oils and need to be diluted in a base oil like almond oil. Some oils such as pure Rose oil they sell already diluted in a base oil like almond oil because it is way too expensive to sell undiluted. Usually about $40 for a dram if the price hasn't gone up. I have taken a few classes on aromatherapy and have been specifically told to stay away from any brands where all the oils are priced the same. Each oil will cost differently because of how much plant material it takes to make an ounce of oil.
You can buy oils already dilluted in a base oil so you don't have to mix them yourself. Look at the ingredients when purchasing something. If it says fragrance or perfume added than you want to stay away from that.

Ok, thanks Ravenari. This helped. As Jenine said, I live in NYC and there's a lot of everything out here and it's not all good. Just wanted to be sure before I went out to buy some. Thanks for the info Jenine about Whole Foods. I can stop by there tomorrow.

There is also Angelica Herb & Spice. I haven't been there in a long time so you may want to call before you go there just to check if they are still there. They are located at 147 1st Ave, If I remember right they were at 11th street. Their number that I have is 212-677-1549. They seemed to have good quality herbs and oils and didn't seem too expensive. But I haven't been there in a few years so not sure how they are now.
