I just had to ask. Does anybody know any "original" remedies for anything? I have seen a few but i would really like to make my own remedies for sicknesses and stuff instead of going to the doctors. My girlfriend has a low immune system so i would like to be able to make her something that can help.

I am purchasing my BOS soon (yeah i know i have been saying that for at least a year) but when i get it i want to be able to write down some remedies for all kinds of illnesses and things that don't come with a perscription.

I'm not sure what you mean by "original". Most of the herbal remedies that I know are handed down through generations. I also try out some from a good medicinal Herbal Reference book. I'm using the Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicin by Andrew Fnihm. You know, stuff like ginger for upset stomach, tea from thyme against cough etc. I would be very careful with anything "original" as some natural remedies can have unpleasant or downright dangerous side effects (i.e. comfrey taken internally may cause liver damage, but it's fine on compresses for wounds).

If you are looking for herb spells, sorry, I'm not far enough in my studies to help with that.

cinnamon tea (try Harney & sons hot cinnamon sunset, available online) is HUGE for helping when you are congested or feeling yucky in the chest etc. plus it is the most beautiful tasting tea ever!!!! just a smidge of milk and sugar :D the herbs are warming too so it makes you feel kinda snuggly and nice when you are ill.

Here's a website that I find useful. I don't like taking medication except as a last resort so when I look for something I go to this site first

This is a little something I try to take every day, but I usually only make if I feel a bug coming on:

Take a full lemon and slice it up (as thick or thin as you want). Take a circular jar large enough for the slices to fit in. Sprinkle some sugar in the jar, then place one lemon slice in the jar and coat with sugar. Repeat for each individual slice. When all the slices are in the jar and covered with sugar (preferably brown sugar, I must note), close the jar and put into a cool place for a few hours. When you next open the jar, the juice from the lemon slices should have been extracted and mixed with the sugar. Take one to two teaspoons of this concoction as many times a day as you deem necessary.

My mom always called this a "medicine," but I always thought it was a treat 8D

Another little trick I know when you're feeling down with the flu or a cold is to put on one pair of old socks. Then take another pair of socks, preferably thicker ones, and fill them with two tablespoons of powdered mustard apiece. Put these socks over the ones you're already wearing. This supposedly influences toxins to leave while keeping your warmth in!

So I am super late to this party but wanted to put some things in here since so many people have various remedies they like. I thought I might tell you about some of the things my family uses. The nice thing is they are all super easy to make and used extensively in Chinese medicine (yeah, my fam is Chinese and I've lived there).

For colds where you have a dry nose, clear snot, watery eyes
One part White Chrysanthemum flowers
One part Honeysuckle flowers
White Sugar to taste

For colds with fever, sore throat, green snot, nausea
8 slices fresh ginger with the skin taken off (hint: use a spoon not a knife)
Two generous Tbsp. Brown Sugar
Boil the ginger for 1/2 hour and then add the sugar. This may seem strong at first, but it is warming and helps to get rid of bad invasive hot wind.

If you have pneumonia or bronchitis then try a licorice tea as this moistens the lungs. You can get a bunch of it and just start boiling the c**p out of it till you get a concentrate and use it cold.

If you have asthma you can take a Diakon radish and cut it up into slices. cover with maltose syrup (don't ask me why they say maltose) Let sit over night and then pour off the liquid that collects at the top. This is the medicine. Take a spoon full as need.

Hope these all help anyone that tries 'em.

:)
