I got this new book, and I don't believe that I should try most of the things in it quite yet, without a little more knowledge and investigation, but I was just wondering if anyone here knew the book and what your thoughts are on it. It's called, The Ultimate Book of Shadows For The New Generation by Siver RavenWolf. It's from Llewellyn Publications. Thanks in advance for your comments.

I dont have it, SORRY. But if it gets good reviews it will go on my to get list.
If you dont feel ready dont try them. Investigate and read more, start small.

I have this book, after my Scott Cunningham's (all 10 of 'em!), it's one of the first books i bought when starting out.

Some of Silver's stuff *can* be a bit fluffy, but her theory is sound.
I did find some of the layout a little confusing, even higgledy-piggledy in places, but overall it's a good book - just don't use it as a stand-alone sourcebook, keep a few other authors nearby!

Thanks for the advice. I have 2 of Scott Cunningham's books. His Book Of Shadows and Guide for the Solitary Practitioner.

Definitely don't use it as the only source book. Read it, but stay unattached to it until you've read many authors and can formulate your own ideas.

Ravenwolf and DJ Conway are at the top of my hate list. They both tend to take things they think or hear and parade it as fact when it actually isn't, and they pull the fluff card quite often as well. Use their rituals and spells if they suit you, but do not believe what they say about histories or cultures unless you find it backed up in actual, academic texts (multiple texts are always better than one).

On the flipside though, they make good firewood

For me I read many books from many different authors, and take bits and pieces that relate or resonate with me, and form my own path/spells/etc. I think part of the path, especially being solitary, is making everything your own so it has more meaning to you.

a woman i knew what i was living in washingon state gave me that book as a parting gift.. i really enjoyed reading it.. some things I didn't agree with, but we are not going to agree with everything from every author... it's a good read to get you thinking about some things and to start you down the path of formulating your own ideas...
