I agree with all the learning and practicing etc... hard work totally pays off but i dont quite agree with the following... "15. Don’t go calling yourself a Witch, Wiccan, Shaman etc after picking up your first book. It takes a lot of time and a lot of hard work and experience before you can really call yourself that." I think that you may call yourself a witch whenever you deem yourself ready; for instance many of us are born witches. Just because you are new doesnt mean you are not legitimate. I wouldnt go around calling yourself High Priestess So and So right away tho. BUT just because you are new to the faith doesnt mean you cant call yourself Wiccan either. Are christians who just joined a church not called christian? nope, they sure are considered christians. Just like new witches, wiccans, muslims, christians and on and on... Not everyone must follow the same path, not everyone does the whole year and a day thing. The great thing about Wicca and witchery is the ability to adapt to your own preferences and needs. blessings~ ruby rowan

Perhaps some are born witches, but it still takes study and time to fulfill that role. Babies aren't going to be casting curses with their rattles anytime soon. Even cultures where shamans are considered born that way will require training before they are able to actually BE one successfully.
So on one hand, yes, people can call themselves whatever they want when they decide they are ready. But on the other hand, calling yourself something doesn't mean anything to anyone else without something to back it up, as well as being misleading at times. How can you know you truly have a belief and appreciate for whatever tradition you're attracted to without spending time with it? That's what the original quote is saying; simply picking up a single book/source that's exposing you to something for the first time is not sufficient enough for you to be sure you know what you're doing, or that the source is accurate.

From what i've gathered from watching witches on youtube and their views i have found that when you are a beginer the important thing is to do what YOU want to do and what feels right including the time it takes to learn what you need to learn. For most the average time is about three years and i am going to time it that when im 21 i am going to see where i am and if im ready to become a witch. Hopefully by this time i will be happy with what i am doing with my life and also my friends and family will have knowledge of this.

To a point! There are certain rules and laws that you should be aware of, learn and work with. If you were being taught a certain tradition it certainly wouldn't be that way Briganta

There are definatly rules that you need to be aware of to a point...especially as Briganta said if you are following a specific tradition...
But I also agree with Ruby that you can call yourself Witch, Wiccan, Pagan etc before all the studying - I've always known I was a Witch and called myself that - though I wasnt a true Practising Witch until I had studied and learned certain things about my craft...

Hello to everyone!!!! I am new to the forum and I find it really helping so far! That's my first post so I would like to begin with a question. I am into Celtic Wicca and I've just started exploring the details. But yet, yesterday I asked the Spirits to guide me in my dream to a sign of any kind, so that I'd know more about my favorite Goddess Brighid. To my surprise, I did not dream anything Celtic. Actually, my dream was about an Egyptian ship with magnificent Egyptian art. And, the best thing was, I heard the Shiva in Exile song "Anubis" in my dream. Clearly hearing every sound of it. That made me confused. Wasn't it some kind of a sign? Maybe that means I should follow the Egyptian deities? Can you give me an opinion? Thanks!!!!

MM Brizeida,
I would certainly do some research into the Egyptian pantheon but leave your options open for the time being. Since you're just starting out there's plenty of time and I'm sure you'll be led to wherever it is you're supposed to be when the time is right.

Briganta And I think that there's always a little possibility it was just a normal dream without any meanings since you say you're new... I don't say it doesn't mean anything, I just say it COULD not mean something; but that's my opinion anyway, so... Blessed be Bi11ie

Briganta Sometimes you chose your deity and sometimes they just chose you ~ you'll know what feels right ~ your dreams are very prophetic in guiding you on a material plane, it just takes more practice to be able to interpert your dreams (and they ALWAYS mean something) ~ you'll know when that happens too.
And IMHO, if you ignore the little things it's harder to see the bigger ones and that is what learning to be a witch is about for me ~ always learning, being open to receive so you can know the right way to give.
And not to offend you Billie ~ but being new also means what you think is nothing now you soon learn is always something but you must be receptive to it or you will never advance in the Craft.
Many Blessings, Silver Filrelite

Oh well, I didn't know dreams always mean something... I thought there are dreams that just don't mean anyhting. I myself have seen many prophetical dreams in my life but most times they were not that simple to understand. There are some things that mean something completely different for eack one of us; for example: I have a friend with long blond hair and I really enjoy braiding it (although he doesn't) and I also like reading a manga series where the main character has blond braided hair so if I see a dream that has something to do with Edward (the main character I was talking about) my mind will go straight to Alex (my friend with the long blond hair) but to anyone else the dream would not make any sense at all. I hope you get my point..

Yes Billie I totally understand your point ~ what I was trying to express is that your character in your dream in relation to your friend in your dreams can be telling you something very subtle or even something very profound but that they ARE connected is in itself what you work at trying to learn to understand through your development,,,,the higher you evolve, the more you begin to understand/retain and the more you rely on your instincts and the Goddess will help you in her guidence ~ many refer to it as "faith". Many happy dreams with blessings of the Goddess, Silver Firelite

Thanks I've spent years on trying to understand how my dreams work and trying to find a simple way to decode them. I came to the conclusion I should write my dreams down and then search for "keywords" in them (people or places that mean something special to me like in the example I made earlier) and then write the real meaning with a different color above the word. After that I spend some hours (or maybe days) thinking about my dreams while doing other things at the same time and it's very likely I'll come up with an idea because I will see or hear something that is gonna remind me of my dream. Well that's how I decode me dreams and I just felt like sharing it so that I might help someone somehow..
