I have alot of questions so I decided to merge it all into one thread, feel free to respond with anything at all. I don't want to be a nuisance so on with the questions! 1. I have a 40 inch bamboo rod, would it count as a staff or a wand and what are ideal things to decorate it with, instead of a crystal on the top I was thinking of tying a turtle shell on to the tip as a sign of protection, say a prayer of thanks to the turtle and maybe leave offerings. ill get the turtle shell from here http://www.boneroom.com/misc/remnants.htmis this a good idea? 2. can I devote a ritual to a phoenix or is it possible to have a phoenix as a patron? and is it possible to contact a phoenix in a meditation? 3. I'm not sure yet if i believe in the gods and goddesses in a literal sense, but I know i believe in a spiritual or divine energies and some mythical creatures spiritually, should i wait until i attempt to contact a god/goddess i feel comfortable with until I believe in them completely or not?

We love questions so please don't hold back I'll take a stab at number three (soz, don't have time for them all right now, might come back to them later!)... Quote: 3. I'm not sure yet if i believe in the gods and goddesses in a literal sense, but I know i believe in a spiritual or divine energies and some mythical creatures spiritually, should i wait until i attempt to contact a god/goddess i feel comfortable with until I believe in them completely or not? Some people are hard polytheists (which means they believe in literal multiple deities), some people are soft polytheists (which means they believe that the "Gods" are facets of some kind of divine source, so parts of a whole rather than an actual whole seperate being). Then some people are duotheists (which means they *usually* believe in a divine feminine and a divine masculine). No one is wrong I believe in some so called "mythical" creatures. I'm sure others do too, so no problems there! I would wait until you feel comfortable, regardless of whether you "completely" believe in them or not. If you are comfortable with attempting communion with a deity then do so, it may even help you realise what you do believe. Hope that is of some help!

It is never a nuisance to ask questions else how do you learn?Just Peace wrote: 1. You can use any material you are comfortable with in making either a staff or a wand so bamboo is acceptable if that is what you are comfortable with. The average size of a wand ranges from 10" to 15", some more, some less and the average staff is considered to be a minimum of at least your own height and more although walking sticks can be quite a bit shorter. As to the decorations, again, it is your own personal choice. In Native Indian traditions, our own choices are considered personal 'medicine'. Also in the Indian ways the turtle is very sacred as it represents the North American continent or our first home, turtle island. I sense the idea you have is very similar to what Native Indians leave at certain sacred sites referred to as a Spirit Spear and yes prayers and offerings are done from the center of the circle where the Spirit Spear resides. Do exercise caution here with your parents as it could be considered "an idol" that your mother has expressed displeasure with. Making it so it resides in your room and used as a "walking stick/staff" or placed in nature away from prying eyes to maintain household harmony would be best.Just Peace wrote: 2. can I devote a ritual to a phoenix or is it possible to have a phoenix as a patron? and is it possible to contact a phoenix in a meditation? Yes you can devote a ritual to a phoenix. Again in Native Indian culture a mythical animal is a spirit guide if that animal has come to you and is often communicated with/contacted through vision quests or meditation.Just Peace wrote: 3. I believe Daisy has given you a very comprehensive answer to your third question and all I can add to it is don't force yourself to believe in anything you are not comfortable believing in or are not ready to believe in.

Re question #1 - before using any wood I would research what the qualities/energies of that wood are.
Re question #2 - I agree with what Dreamweaver said but I don't think a phoenix could be your patron.
Re question #3 - if you don't believe in a god/goddess completely or you aren't comfortable in trying to communicate with them they may not co-operate when you try to contact them. If you wait, as Daisy suggested, until you feel comfortable or find yourself believing in them then you would probably have a much better experience when you try to communicate with one of them.
Patience, dedication and research/reading is key.

thanks for the help everyone. that was amazing, i just did a deep meditation to see if i could see anything maybe like a spirit guide or something like it. I cast my circle and offered a jar of cinnamon sugar and sea salt to the spirits, I was in meditation for about 15-25 minutes and at first I saw 4 very massive birds each looked the size of a cargo plane flying in a circle. they gleamed lightly and only appeared as shadows in the sky. I looked around me and saw literally 100s of crows perched around me and silently staring at me I looked at them and heard a few 'caws' sound and I waited and felt an odd sense of nostalgia and all of a sudden a giant crow with about a wing span of 6-10 seemed to come out of nowhere from me as if it came to life off my skin. It appeared to have black spheres floating around it and streams of light smoke floating from it gently. I'm definitely going to look into this more, I think the large crow might be my spirit guide and maybe the massive birds symbolize something or maybe they are deities or spirits? what do you think it means?

I think it's an important meditation and you definitely need to figure it out. I agree Crow could be one of your animal guides. I'm not sure what the massive birds symbolize, what kind of feeling did you get when you saw them?

At first I felt uneasy and almost scared when I saw them but I didn't think they were dangerous or anything but as the meditation went on I felt at peace and felt a sense of divine (out of reach) wisdom, I believe they might symbolize the elementals which I called to my meditation or maybe something I must overcome?

Maybe try meditating again and calling them to you - see what happens and note how you feel. If they appear try to communicate with them if it seems OK to do so and you may find out some more.

I like that idea. There are some similar threads, but I haven't seen that exact question yet. Sounds very interesting.

You are welcome to start a topic for a place to share your spiritual experiences ~ I can't make it a sticky at the moment as I am having technical difficulties creating announcements/sticky's and until we discover where the problem is the topic will need to have several posts continually added to not have the topic be pushed down as new topics are added,,,,

Thats what this School is for, learning and sharing new things, I love to read other in sites it helps you ponder other beliefs, I have a very open mind. You may share anything you like here, I for one like to challenge my mind, especially when its new, or something I haven't thought of.
