Today, I was trying to determine what deck to use for my daily draws for the upcoming week, and I stumbled across this little gem. I know that several of us have AND love this deck, so I thought a review was in order!

It's a 65 card oracle deck. It can be purchased as a kit, and the companion book is almost as amazing as the deck itself!

Brian Froud is responsible for the deck and all of the art within the book.

Jessica Macbeth wrote the book, and did an amazing job with it. It is a 205 page hardback book entitled "The Faeries' Oracle - Working With the Faeries to Find Insight, Wisdom and Joy". Ms. Macbeth really did the faeries proud with this book. It is just a delightful read, and brings the faeries to life with the turn of every page. Of course, the book contains card meanings - quite extensive ones - but the introduction to each faery takes the whole experience to a different level. There are also tips on readings, and spreads in the back.

The deck itself is beautiful. The cards are larger, and of decent stock, although I do find that the edges to this deck wear really bad with the kind of shuffling I do. I could do without the heavy gold borders. In fact, I wish these cards had no borders at all, but I love the deck so much that I can overlook almost anything.

This is the most playful deck I've ever seen, and I would highly recommend it to both beginner and experienced readers. It is a must have for the collector. And the book is so far above and beyond the usual companion book that you get with a deck that it makes the kit well worth the price.

Here are a few pics of my favourite cards from this deck...

And if you only knew my daughter, you would know that were she a faery, she would be this one...

I love these cards, and frequently use them for my daily draw. The only problem I have with these, is I have to rely on the book most of the time. There's just so much information on each card, I gotta read it everytime. And each time something new jumps out at me. I'll often draw a card during a reading for someone else, like if I do a Celtic Cross and need more information, or want to ask what does the querent need to get through what is shown in the cards.

Tallwoman, I'm the same way. But when the book is as nice as this one is, I don't mind breaking it out now and then! I think it's harder to keep all the faeries separate in your mind, and I'm not completely certain that they don't intentionally confuse us!

I expect lots of entertainment and hi-jynx when working with this deck. This will be the one I do my daily draws with this week.

I will draw a faery card in conjunction with another reading for clarity, and I love using this deck for daily draws for myself, but I'm really pretty selfish with it. I don't think I've ever read for anyone else with this deck! I know that I should, but it is almost as if you have to have an understanding with the fae to comprehend the messages they bring. I'm not sure that everyone could relate to a reading with this deck, but I sure do! (Listen to me, trying to explain why I'm so selfish with it!)

I am anxiously awaiting Brian and Wendy Froud's new oracle deck that is supposed to be a companion deck to this one!

Wow!!! I just realized I'm the same way!!! I've never done a full reading for someone else with this deck. A single card for clarification, and I did a one card draw for Michael. But no one other than me has touched this deck. And I can't imagine letting anyone touch them. I let others shuffle my tarot decks to do a reading, but not this deck.

I use the book more heavily for this deck than any other, but I feel that it's one of the few books where the descriptions are almost always extremely spot on in general anyway.

One of my all-time favourite Oracle Decks. :)

This week, I'm branching out!

I'm going to do my 3 card daily draw rather than the usual one card draw I do with this deck. I'll see where it takes me...

Rav, we really have very similar taste in decks! I'd love to hear what all you have!

I really enjoy Jesa Macbeth's writing, and I think that's a huge reason I rely on the book so much. The art of the cards is very deep and intense, but she takes it a step further with her insight on the cards.

Tallwoman, I had a lady here a few weeks ago that was looking at some of my books that I had for sale, and I know I visibly cringed when she touched this book! She had all kinds of questions about it and the deck, but I didn't get the deck out because I could tell she was a 'toucher'.

I think this would be a great set to get for a teen that had an interest in oracle or tarot decks.

I've considered getting it for my daughter - she's not a teen, but she's always had a thing for faeries, and I really think something like this might be easier for her to start out with than a tarot deck. I think it might really be a deck she could connect with.

The Heart of Faerie Oracle will be out in March!

(3 decks that I want will be released within a 2 month period!)

I too love this deck :) And I look forwards to the next one! I was over the moon when I heard about it! I've always loved the artwork of Brian Froud, ever since watching The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth films :)

I especially like the blank card on which you can draw your own faery guide... not that I've drawn one yet, too scared to spoil the deck! But I do have a clear impression in my mind and even a name for him so I kind of project the image onto the card when I need to.

I've never drawn my faerie, either, Smeezle.

Everytime I look at the blank card I think "How can I compete with this?"

my mother-in-law is a huge fairy fan (honestly me and her son are to blame, it all started with one fairy figurine and before ya know it....fairies EVERYWHERE!!!! lol.....) and had bought this deck but she isnt a big tarot reader or witch or even pagan at that matter,lol....so basically she was like "if you wanna use that,go right ahead" and i did :D
the cards are beautiful! i cant imagine trying to create something so well illustrated, they are amazing!!!!

i always got great readings and always had "jumper" cards, like when a card just kinda hops outta the pile like "hey pick me!" its a fabulously strange deck i guess you could say :D

Michael, you are on a deck shopping binge!

Have you seen much of the deck? I am a little leery of it with his wife being involved. I don't like those dolls she makes, and I would be really disappointed if the deck had any images based on those!

I edited my post above while you were typing that one!

I'd love to see some of the cards of the new deck!

I'm hoping Brian did the cards and Wendy did the book for the new deck! If that's the case, then I think I'll be fine with it!
